The Worst Year Ever: The End of 2020

Australia bush fires, COVID-19 Pandemic, Kobe Bryant’s death, George Floyd and the Black Lives Matter movement, Murder Hornets, Beirut explosion, Chadwick Boseman’s death, West Coast Wildfires, Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s death, Donald Trump and the election, and Joe Biden Wins.

What a shitshow.

March 18th, 2020 (212 cases in Ontario) was the last day I worked before being told to stay home until further notice due to Corona Virus. On March 19th, 2020 I applied for EI (CERB didn’t excist yet), application took 4 hours to complete due to EVERYONE attempting to do the same thing. Over the next 3 months I panicked of not knowing what was happening with EI/CERB. No one knew what to do and there was rumors everyday of having to pay it back, have to pay the taxes, having to reapply every month and much more.
Like most people we panic shopped, we didn’t know what was going to stay open or if there would be enough food for everyone. We spent $800-$1000 on groceries in one month. Going to the grocery store was scary as you didn’t know who had the virus, masks were not mandatory and there was 100’s of people in the store at once. Eventually as things went on we figured out we had to wear masks and line up in order to get into the store and wash your hands as soon as you walked into your house. My hands have never been so dry in their life and I’m a hairstylist. My lockdown lasted 92 days before we were told we could go back to work. June 19th, 2020 was my first day back at work and I felt like I didn’t know how to do hair anymore. Masks became normal and being scared wasn’t a thing anymore – we just wanted to work.

September 26th, 2020 was my last day working at my first salon as I decided to move on to a new salon to further my career. On October 5th was my first day at my new job – it goes okay. On October 7th I get fired because the owner has a bad vibe from me. I go home dumbfounded that I just lost my job and we are still in the middle of a pandemic. Don’t change jobs in the middle of the pandemic! Over the next 45 days I job search and panic. I once again apply for EI and panic as the place that just fired me refused to give me a ROE, which you need in order to get money from the government. Eventually things get worked out (at least that’s what I think happened) and I get paid a month later from EI.

On November 21st, 2020 I accept a job at a hair salon in Maple. Panic because Ford was announcing if we were going into lockdown again. Fortunely York Region didn’t go into lockdown and I could work – I started December 1st, 2020. I get happy as I have found a job and the year finally seems to be turing around!

December 11th, 2020 the news announced York Region is going into lockdown. Work turned into an shitshow and hours got extended – I worked 11 hours.
Saturday due to too many workers and not enough room for guest I worked 5 hours.
Sunday, our last day, I worked 11 hours with no breaks. We ate when we could and sat for a 5 mins if we had time. We fit one weeks worth of clients into 2 days. I got home sore AF.

December 14th – Lockdown 1,940 cases
December 15th – 2,275 cases
December 16th – 2,139 cases
December 17th – 2,432 cases
December 18th – 2,290 cases
December 19th – 2,357 cases
December 20th – 2,316 cases
December 21st – 2,123 cases

On December 21st, 2020 Ford announces that all of Ontario will be entering a province wide lockdown starting December 26th, 2020 for a minimum of 28 days. As Toronto, Peel and York have already been in lockdown, this means that I will be sitting at home for a minimum of 42 days.

December 22nd – 2,202 cases
December 23rd – 2,408 cases
December 24th – 2,447 cases
December 25th – they didn’t post the numbers due to Christmas
December 26th – Provincial lockdown 4301 cases (this includes Christmas numbers)

Somewhere in between the 14th and now the UK has report a new strain of the virus that is worse and on December 27th two cases of the UK strain has been reported in Ontario.

This year seems to be never ending with bad news and it’s taking a toll on most people. I have officially been off for 5 months in 2020 and come January it will be a month off. I hope this lockdown gets us where we need to be to have a semi-normal life again. I haven’t seen friends, my dog has separation anxiety with me and people are getting tired of it. People don’t care anymore because it’s been a year long thing, humans adapt to whatever we need to and if the governament doesn’t figure it out this is just going to be something we live with for the rest of our lives.

This has officially been the most depressing blog I’ve ever written. This is just my verison of my year and the small amount I’ve dealt with. There are a lot of others who had it WAY worse and I’m thankfully the only issue I’ve had is to sit at home.

COVID-19 Layoff: Day Forty-Five

Lazy day.

Well today was a boring day. At my apartment it was balcony clean up day, but there were wasps! I made Dave get rid of one then I started to clean but then I found another one so I said fuck it, plus it looked like it was going to rain. Our balcony isn’t that messy anyways, it’s like organize mess.

The rest of the day was just hanging out and watching movies. At dinner time we fed Drax then went for a walk only to get caught in the rain! Drax hates rain so as soon as it started he was all about getting inside, then it started to come down harder so we ran! Drax is pretty good at running when on a leash, he hates having a wet face so as soon as he’s inside he will run on the towel to get it off then he lays in our bed like a butt.

The rest of the night was hanging out and attempting to get rid of a migraine, this weather is killing me!

That’s pretty much it for today. Today wasn’t an interest day unfortunately.

COVID-19 Layoff: Day Forty-Two

Today was a blur.

This morning Dave and I went to Dave’s family grocery store, saw their little puppy (she’s literally only 2lbs), got some groceries then came home to walk Drax a bunch of times.

I have this urge to organize my pantry. You know, buy the clear containers and label them so they all match and look pretty – but money. Kitchen Stuff Plus does have curb side so I may get 2 containers to start with and grow from there. It’s going to have to be a slow process with this whole pandemic.

None of my orders have come in and it’s stressing me out. I ordered soap from Bath and Body Works because we’re running out and it’s been 3 weeks, it was supposed to come today but tracking doesn’t give any information so that’s useless. My sister’s package says it should come Friday so we’ll see for that, my other stuff it doesn’t say anything, the tracking is also useless so I have no clue when that will show up! Hopefully soon because it’s a gift!

Tomorrow I’m going to do my plant update, I’ve been putting it off but things need to happen! Stay tuned for that!

Not much else is happening, I slept like absolutely shit last night so I’m in bed with Drax and I’m going to pass out.

COVID-19 Layoff: Day Forty One

This weather can’t make up its mind.

One day it’s a snow storm every ten minutes, the next day it’s sunny and warm enough for my pale skin to burn and now it’s always super windy and rainy! Pick a season please!

Today I wanted to get out of the house so I went to Shoppers Drug Mart with Amanda. We both got some nail polish and I got nail polish remover. I never do my nails because I’m usually just washing hair all day long but since I’m not why not? I picked out a nice steel colour. I’m actually in love with it and might keep them like this for the duration of the quarantine.

Cute! Excuse the messy nails LOL

After that I picked up some hangers to help organize my closet. My boyfriend has a shit ton of shirts (that he doesn’t wear) and I barely have any but that’s because most of my clothes are still at my parents. Slowly but surely I will get there!

Came back to walk Drax and try to stay busy. Did the closet, cleaned kitchen, did nails, did Dave’s expenses, played Animal Crossing and now in bed with a migraine that is keeping me awake (stupid weather).

It was great to get out of the house, my mental health definitely needed it besides just walking Drax all the time. I feel refreshed and now can go back to being locked up again waiting for a million packages to come, okay 4 and two of them are my sisters.

That’s about it folks, productive day for the most part. How is everyone doing? Go outside for the morning and buy small things like $5 nail polish!

COVID-19 Layoff: Day Thirty-Nine

Cloudys, clouds go away…or just rain already.

Yesterday was such a nice day and today was nothing but clouds and waiting for it to rain. When the weather is like this all I get is migraines and it gets worse the more it doesn’t rain because of all of the pressure.

I walked Drax 3 times before 12pm because he was being such a suck and kept wanting to go out. I swear he is the only dog that isn’t sick of going on walks!

Today I finished watching a show on Netflix called Outer Banks, it’s pretty interesting about teens looking for a ship wreck, it’s cheezy but good to pass the time. I also watched the one episode on Netflix of Coronavirus Explained, it’s pretty good and interesting because it’s not repeating the same thing everyday like what’s on the news. It actually explains what’s going on rather than just saying keep social distancing! Got take a look, it’s one episode that’s like 30mins long.
We also watched Extraction with Chris Hemsworth, I’m sorry, I love Chris but this movie was boring. Take a look for yourself but I just wasn’t into it, either was Dave.

The rest of the night was just hanging out, Dave wanted to trim his beard even though he keeps threatening to shave it all off. I don’t want him to look baby face so I made it short but still having a beard.

I’m probably just going to go to bed soon since this weather is just peachy. Tomorrow I think I’m going to give another plant update because some of them have grown a lot and Dave planted some new stuff. I’m not going to have any room on my balcony.

COVID-19 Layoff: Day Thirty Eight

Today was report day!

Honestly report day isn’t that interesting, it literally takes 5 minutes to do.

Today was such a beautiful day, literally everyone was out in the park not social distancing! I sat on my balcony for way too long apparently because my chest, face and one shoulder is burnt. Yep, burnt. It was only 13° out but my fair skin can’t handle it! The joke in my family is that I don’t tan, I either stay white or burn. Which is pretty much the truth so today it was burn!

The rest of the day was pretty much chilling out, this morning I had a SHIT TON of dishes to wash so that got done and the rest is history.

I can’t wait until this is over, being stir crazy is coming back and I don’t know what to do anymore!

Hope everyone is staying sane and safe.

COVID-19 Layoff: Day Thirty Seven

Good morning!

I forgot to do my blog last night so it’s coming to you this morning! Yesterday morning Dave and I went to Walmart again because we forgot to get stuff plus they didn’t have some stuff! They didn’t have some of the groceries we wanted so we checked if they had that, which they did. The day we bought the BBQ we realized we didn’t get anything else for it besides the BBQ! We went back, got a cover and cooking utensils then had BBQ chicken for dinner. We have used this is everyday since we got it and I’m excited for summer now (assuming the pandemic will be over).

The rest of the day was pretty much just hanging out. At 6pm Post Malone hosted a Nirvana Tribute livestream concert and I of course had to watch is because a. Post Malone and b. Nirvana! It was pretty good, he sounded good and had Travis Barker do the drums so that’s cool!

After that not much happened, Dave played his videogames and I hung out on the couch until I was tired. Hense forgetting to blog!

I did weigh myself last night which was a big mistake and now I need to focus on losing weight again. Too much snacking is happening and not enough exercise!

That’s all for this morning, I’ll be back with tonights post later on!

COVID-19 Layoff: Day Thirty Six

How is everyone doing?

Today was a quiet day, which is alright every once in awhile but that has been everyday lately.

This morning I finished my friends cross stitch, it’s one of my better ones but it took FOREVER compared to the other ones I did.

Excuse the crappy nail polish but this is the bad boy I just finished. My friend loves mountains so I thought I do this for her. All of them have something to do with something they like, some are simple but it’s the thought that counts. Plus they’re all mini so bigger ones can come later!

The rest of the day was watching the movie Tag, playing Animal Crossing and now watching the NFL Draft.

Hope everyone has a good night.

COVID-19 Layoff: Day Thirty Five

Welcome to spring-winter.

This morning Dave and I did some grocery shopping, we got there around 9:30am and by the time we left (10:30am) there was a big lineup to get in. It’s just crazy to think this is actually happening even though it’s been 35 days since I last worked.

While we were shopping Dave said he wanted a BBQ since we’re allowed them on our balcony. I definitely miss having BBQ food so I was okay with it. He found one that wasn’t too big and was only $160 from Walmart.

It came in a box but putting it together was easy as Dave did it pretty quick. The best part was the food, we had sausages, potatoes and salad. Definitely going to be used a lot!

That was pretty much our day! We walked Drax as he was super sucky together for some reason but he’s good and asleep for the night.

Dave and I are now watching Absurd Planet on Netflix, it’s pretty funny and educational. It’s fun to see all the weird animals on this planet! Go check it out!

That’s it! Hope you’re all staying sane and staying safe!

COVID-19 Layoff: Day Thirty Four

Welcome to day 34.

I honestly don’t even know what to say about today, it was a complete write off of napping, walking Drax and playing Animal Crossing. LOL when is this going to be over?

This morning the weather was like this…

IMG_20200421_112659

Now it’s cold but there’s no snow anywhere to be found. The weather has been strange lately but I’m hoping it’ll get warm soon but not too warm, just typical spring weather would be nice. This is why my plants are all inside still, the weather has been so crazy this year that we can’t. One minute it’s warm-ish and sunny then 5 minutes later it looks like the picture above!

Let’s see, tomorrow I want to attempt to finish my cross stitch I made for my friend now that I have grey thread thanks to my amazing neighbour Amanda, hey girl! Then finish the one I started for myself and I need to get started on the rest of the ones I want to make but I have time since I wanted to give these as Christmas gifts (part of).

Mother’s day is coming out and I need to figure something out with my sister. However I can not write it on here because my Mum reads my blog every morning! Hey Mum! Anyone have some good ideas?

That’s about it for today, plants are growing like crazy which I’m excited about. I’m hoping I can actually grow a pumpkin because last time I tried it didn’t happen and my step-dad tricked me by buying a pumpkin and putting it outside next to the vine. I got excited then bummed out lol! Also I have attempted to grow sunflowers before but the squirrels got to it so hopefully that doesn’t happen. I’ll just have to keep getting Drax out on the balcony once it’s nice, he’s been slowly getting interested in them so I’m sure he’ll love that!
