Benefit Cosmetics Cookie Highlighter

I never knew the power of bronzer and highlighter until I got my makeup done for that wedding in October. I had just come back from St. Maarten with an small tan (your girl is so white she doesn’t tan and even the Carribean could barely do it) and still wanted to look tan. I looked white again once she put my foundation on (remember I wasn’t that tanned to begin with) but once she put bronzer and this highlighter on I was in love with it. The highlighter is the perfect shade and not too much shimmer. You can get this at Sephora for $40.00

First Aid Beauty Facial Radiance Pads

I’ve always skipped toner because it usually came in a liquid or mist form and I hated it. My sister actually told me about these then so did the makeup artist, most likely because First Aid Beauty is the one brand that hasn’t irritated my face. It’s simple, after washing your face, you take a pad and wipe it across your face then use your moisturizer. You can get a pack of 60 at Sephora for $42.00.

Aveda Heat Relief Thermal Protector & Conditioning Mist

In a perfect world, when we come out of the shower we brush are hair, put of heat protector in (yes everyone should!), put your styling cream then blow dry and style your hair as you please. The next morning you don’t wash your hair but it needs to be fixed, with this thermal spray you mist the hair before you re-style your hair giving it heat protection! I use this everyday because I fix my hair every morning (were not all perfect, no one is). You can get this at Aveda salons or stores for $41.00.

Artic King 3.5 cu. ft. Chest Freezer

As most of you know I have a dog, we switched him to raw food and we got a hook up from a friend that we get 80lbs of meat. So we needed a place to store all this meat so it wouldn’t go back. My boyfriend actually got this on sale so it was cheaper for us but Walmart has sales all the time. You can get this at Walmart for $220.

Benefit Cosmetics Hello Happy Soft Blur Foundation

I had a wedding in October and decided to get my makeup done at Sephora in Barrie (because that’s where the wedding was taking place) and absolutely loved my makeup artists and loved the products she used on me. I don’t like having a lot of makeup on my face because 1. I don’t like the feeling of it and 2. I hate hiding my freckles (yay UK background). I told the stylist this and she nailed it. This foundation was the best anyone has used on me to this day. It didn’t feel like I had anything on and I could still see my freckles. You can get this at Sephora for $40.00.

Aveda Hand Relief Moisturizing Creme

When it comes to Aveda I love anything that’s the ‘Shampure’ smell (it’s the typical Aveda smell if you know what that smells like) so I love this hand creme in the shampure scent. It also comes in a cherry almond scent that I love. You can get this at Aveda stores or salons for $34.00

Aveda Dry Remedy Daily Moisturizing Oil

DRY HAIR! Do I have your attention? This Aveda oil works well out of all oils because it actually goes into the hair strand rather then sitting on top and making you think it’s working. This bottle will last you a while as with every Aveda product, a little goes a long way. You can put this in wet or dry hair before blow drying or after or just to refresh your ends on non-wash days. You can get these at Aveda stores and salons for $41.00

Structube Shari White Dining Table
My boyfriend and I finally got a bigger place that allows us to have an actualy dining table so I found this one and absolutely love it. I actually got a noise complaint putting it together because I was so excited for my new purchase. I’ve fallen in love with this store because they have better quality products then Ikea but you’re not breaking the bank for it (don’t get me wrong they do have expensive things but you can find good ones for cheaper here too.) This cost me $299 at Structube.

Sephora Makeup Brushes

When I was in hair school I needed makeup brushes because we always put finishing touches on clients but they wanted us to use q-tips for everything to keep things clean/sanitary. My sister ended up getting me a set similar to things and now that I’m done hair school I just use them for myself and I love them. I don’t use that much makeup so this is something basic and works perfectly. You get this sets from almost anywhere but I got these at Sephora for roughly $60.00.

I got this as a start primer to my journey of getting into makeup. I do have redness in my face so this was a good start. The Body Shop Tea Tree Oil

I know Tea Tree oil has been written about before on my blog but that was awhile ago. I got this because at times my chin will break out and it drives me up the wall. So I went to the body shop to see if they had something for me, the last time I got the stick but this time I got the oil which is more concentrated. It makes them smaller and gets rid of them way faster then just waiting for them to go away with washing my face. I got this at the Body Shop for $13.00 for the small bottle.

Ikea Silveran Mirror Cabine – White

My boyfriend and I needed more space and storage in our bathroom so we decided to go to Ikea since I had a gift card for there. I had an idea in mind which ones I wanted to look at but I needed to see them in person, there was another one but it was too big so we got this one. As in usual Ikea fashion it was a pain in the ass to put together, it literally took two people. Once we got it up and functioning it was great! The white takes away from all the brown in my bathroom and makes it look clean! You can get this at Ikea for $79.99.

6 Basic Hair Care Tips to Healthy Hair and Scalp

Tip No. 1: Get Quality Shampoo

Most drug store shampoos have Sulfates and Silcones in them which are bad for our hair. Sulfates (Sodium Lauryl Sulfate) are also found in dish soap and laundry detergent, so if you run out of your drug store shampoo just hop on over to the kitchen and wash your hair there (just kidding!) Sulfates cause the shampoo to work more which causes it to strip away natural occurring proteins, oils and colour; aka drying out your hair (are you wondering why your hair is in tangle after washing?). Now that being said you do need some Sulfates (Ammonium Lauryl Sulfate), all this does is allow you to work the shampoo through the hair or else it wouldn’t lather.

Silcones are like rubber/plastic, it gives the illusion of shine but it’s just coating the hair with plastic. This is bad because it’s preventing moisture from penetrating the hair shaft leaving your hair even more dry. This also cause your hair to be more oily.

Now I know ‘better quality’ shampoo can be expensive but you can find them at cheaper prices. In my opinion with better shampoo you tend to need less so if you go for the bigger bottles it’ll be more bang for your buck.

Tip No. 2: Don’t Wash Your Hair Everyday

By washing your hair everyday you’re washing away the natural oils that help your scalp and hair. Now that being sad, listen to your scalp and hair. Washing every other day is a great start (some people this is their absolute max days they can push their hair), if your scalp starts to hurt and get itchy then you need to wash your hair. If you have highlights to the root or a bleach out you can probably go way longer because your hair is dry and will absorb the oils.
Waiting too long and not washing you hair can actually cause hair breakage at the root. It happens before the hair gets a chance to grow. If you look at oil under a microscope it’s actually sharp and it can cut the hair before it gets long. It can also clog the pores preventing growth! If you want great hair, have a healthy scalp!

Tip No. 3: Do Nothing To Your Hair

I know this sounds strange and not to mention impossible for most but if you don’t colour, heat style or put up your hair, only wash and dry you’ll have healthy hair (if you get cuts). Basically if you don’t have to style your hair then don’t!

Tip No. 4: Use Product

I know, another scam! Wrong! I work at an Aveda salon because I use Aveda products, I wouldn’t sell you something I don’t use or don’t believe in. If you don’t like products and you style your hair all I ask is you to use a heat protector. This protects the hair from burning when you use your blow dryer, flat iron, curling iron, triple barrel, etc. If you love products then talk to your hairstylist and see if you’re getting the right one for your hair, some products are not made for every hair type.

Tip No. 5: Get Treatments

I know this sounds like a scam when your hairstylist suggests doing a treatment but (most) stylist are being honest and you most likely need it. If they’re suggest a treatment they’ve probably noticed a change in your hair or scalp and are trying to put a fix to it as soon as possible before it gets worse. At my salon we have a couple of treatments we absolutely live by and clients see the difference.
If you have highlights/Balayage/Bleach Outs/Breakage we always do Olaplex.
If your hair is Dry/Damage you need moisture and/or protein we do the Aveda Botanical Treatment.
If you have any issue with your scalp (dry, itchy, oily, flakes, etc) you need a scalp “detox” treatment (Aveda Pramasana Treatmeant). If you have any of these issues talk to your stylist they are trained to know scalp and hair issues and can help!

Tip No. 6: Get Hair Cuts!

I know most people think hairstylists are scissor happy and we always cut off more then you want, but if you say an inch we are cutting off 1 inch. We suggest getting haircuts because if you don’t your hair won’t grow. It’s simple and no one believes us. When you don’t cut your hair your hair gets split ends, the ONLY way you can get rid of split ends is a cut, there is NO treatment for this. If you don’t cut the split ends they continue up the hair strand and won’t stop until it reaches the top of our head or until the hair strand breaks off leaving you with less hair. Also when you don’t cut your hair the ends get extremely thin/fine, that’s because it’s dead and it’s getting ready to break off. Please, please cut your hair, even getting a dusting is better then nothing!

That’s it! Those are my 6 basic tips for having healthy hair and scalp!
