Little Miss Baker: I attempt to bake!

I know I haven’t done much this year so far, I mostly blame that on the weather still being cold here and the fact that life gets in the way. Lately I have been attempting new things though and I’m quite proud of them, that thing is baking.

February and April there’s birthdays I have in my close family and I wanted to make cakes for them (not to mention they asked me to make them cakes!) The first one was my boyfriend’s cake, one day he just randomly said, “I want a KitKat cake.” I went to Pinterest, found the cake and asked him if this is what he wanted. Of course it was so I started out for this adventure.

The cake was pretty simple to make I was just stressing out because I’m not the best baker in the world and I wanted it to turn out well! The items that I used are:

  • two 8 inch cake pans
  • 1 cake mix box
  • 2 long KitKat packages
  • 1 box of Smarties
  • 1 piece of ribbon

Here’s the link I used to help me make my cake http://www.recipegirl.com/2011/11/02/kit-kat-birthday-cake-and-a-recipe-girl-cookbook-deal/ for the most part I just looked at the pictures and did my own thing at home. That’s how easy this cake was.

Of course I took pictures of my finally product so here it is!

Not too bad eh?

Now for the second cake that one was a little bit harder, my sister wanted to same cake as my boyfriend’s but I told her no. I went to Pinterest again and found another idea. I thought this one was going to be easy and it was until I got to the icing part.

This cake is called a Surprise cake, that’s what I pretty much called it because there’s a surprise in the middle. The things I used in these cake was:

  • two 9 inch cake pans
  • 1 icing spatula
  • 2 boxes of cake mix
  • 2 containers of icing
  • 1 bags of Cadbury mini eggs
  • 2 icing bags
  • food colouring

The baking part of this cake is really easy, you think it would be hard but it wasn’t, even putting the candy on the inside wasn’t hard. Here’s the link that I used for the cake http://thissillygirlslife.com/2014/09/surprise-inside-pinata-cake/

The icing part was a pain in the butt, I don’t know why I didn’t think it was going to be easy, but boy oh boy was I wrong. Here’s the website that I got the idea from http://thecakeblog.com/2013/07/diy-rainbow-petal-cake.html
I wanted more info on how to do these petal cake so I looked at some more and found this YouTube link

I only wanted to do two colours so once again I went to Pinterest and found this

If you click on it it will get bigger, this thing was amazing, the colours matched perfectly!

Here is the finished product for my second cake!

And there you have it! Let me know what you think of the cakes I made. I sure hope I am able to make more to post them for you!

Thanks for reading,

The Right Way to Christmas Shop

I live in Canada so Thanksgiving is over, Halloween is around the corner and all the stores are putting out their Christmas stuff. Before you know it the next time you’re at the mall you’re in the crazy, madness, stressing out about what to get the cousin of yours. We’ve all been there, even I, but this year is the year I’m changing the way I shop!

In this post I’m going to let you know how I’ve planned my Christmas shopping and got right to it at the start of October!

Lets begin…

First you want to figure out who the hell you’re buying for. Write it all down, write every single name you think you should buy a gift for this year. Mine looks like this…

1. Mum                        6. Step-Dad
2. Dad                          7. Step-Mother
3. Sister                       8. Boyfriend’s Mum
4. Step-Brother          9. Dog
5. Boyfriend               10. Cat

I have way more then ten people, don’t worry if the list is big. Now that you’ve gotten that out of the way, on a different sheet of paper just brain storm some ideas for each person. I’m going to use my sister as an example; all you have to do is right whatever comes to mind.

Sister:

– car matts
-batta fish
-batta fish tank
-batta food
-GPS
-Pandora bracelet
-Tim Hortons gift card
-Starbucks gift card
-air freshener for car

Now to someone else this make not make any sense but to explain my sister just got her first car and she wants a batta fish, that’s why those were my main focuses.

TIP! If you really can’t think of anything for someone, take them out shopping with you one day and see what they pick up and talk about. Or just listening to them and see what they need around the house, for their cars or something that will help them.

Once you’ve brain stormed for every person and have it all written down, the next step is to figure out from that list you actually want to get them. Going off of my sister’s list, I know my mum will be buying her the car stuff (NOTE: communicate with friends and family so you don’t buy doubles!) so my next go to thing is a batta fish.

Now my sister has had fish before but that’s when we were younger, I started off buy going to a pets store and picking up some information about batta fish. Pet Smart is a great place to go, they have free paper brochures with everything you need and even health concerns to look out for in the pet. Once I got that I got a small tank, the tank I got came with food, gravel and water cleaning solution.

I got her that at the start of October, I haven’t bought anything else for her but slowly with each pay I get a little more gifts. I’ve been slowly buying gifts since the start of October so by the time November comes, I’ll mostly be done my shopping. Now because the first gift that I got for my sister came with everything I just need to worry about getting the fish, but that can wait closer to Christmas time.

In the end, go over your list/brain storming one more time just to make sure you didn’t miss anything or maybe someone told you, “oh I really want this for Christmas.” Once all that is done, it’s time a start wrapping those gifts!

So lets recap and write in point form.

1. Figure out who you’re buying for by writing all the names down.
2. On different sheet of paper brain storm ideas of what to get that person. Do for each persons name you wrote down.
3. Out of that brain stormed list, pick something you actually want to buy them.
4. Do a litter research on which one is best/any info you may need/where to buy.
5. Every time you’re out buy one part of each person, slowly. It doesn’t have to be done all in one sitting.
6. Go over you list and make sure you’ve gotten everything.
7. Start wrapping!

I know it may seem confusing the way I wrote it but you get what I’m saying..maybe.

Hopefully this was somewhat helpful!

Contiki Holidays/Tours

Contiki

Hello Everyone!

If you have read my blog for awhile you know that YouTube is a big part of my life. One of my favourite YouTubers Alli Speed (use to be Alli Trippy) travels all over the world. Most of the time she travels on her own without a company but once a year a company that sponsors YouTubers takes a a couple of them on a trip. Last year they went to Australia, this year they are currently at Barcelona!

My whole life I’ve wanted to go to England and Ireland but no one would ever go with me (I mean I use to beg my mum to take me!) I looked up Ireland on the company’s website and saw the price and said I’m going to do this.

About Contiki Tours

It’s pretty much a travel company but it’s for 18-35 year olds. You look up where you want to go, put a deposit down, then you have 45 days to pay the full thing (if you save for it is reasonable.) The company plans all the little details so you don’t have to worry about them. Flight, how you’re getting around and what you’re going to see and eat is all taken care of. You travel around with a group (other people who have signed up for it), you have a tour guide with you the whole time but you also get some down time to do the things you want or if you want to have a night of drinking lets say, you can do that too.

My Plan

I haven’t travelled in a long time since I’ve stopped playing baseball and it sucks because I’ve gone all over the United States but I’ve never been to the UK and it’s always been a dream of mine. I told my parents about it and they said it was a pretty cool idea, I told my sister and boyfriend about it because hopefully one of them will come with me. Even if they don’t save the money and I do I can also go by myself because I’m never really alone, I just won’t know anyone there.

Since I really want to do this I need to start planning now, I’m shooting for around next year summer to go.

Things I Need to Do

  1. Passport – need to get it filled out for a new one and pictures!
  2. Save – keep saving money the way I have been and I will be alright.
  3. Get plug adapter for Ireland/Scotland/England (a master one with all will work best)
  4. Make sure boyfriend or sister are saving for this!
  5. Make the ultimate packing list!
  6. Traveling backpack (work walking around)
  7. Second battery for camera.
  8. Second memory card for camera. (or load onto computer)
  9. Let work know in advanced.
  10. Find someone to take care of animals. (teach someone how)
  11. Book trip early.
  12. TRAVEL!

Obviously it’s still early so as time goes on I will have a better plan and will figure out what I’m going to do.

I really hope this comes together! I will keep you updated on it!

If you are interested in traveling but don’t really know how and are between the ages 18-35 check out their website!

This will have to be apart of my 2015 list! I will post a link when I create that one!
