Little Miss Baker: I attempt to bake!

I know I haven’t done much this year so far, I mostly blame that on the weather still being cold here and the fact that life gets in the way. Lately I have been attempting new things though and I’m quite proud of them, that thing is baking.

February and April there’s birthdays I have in my close family and I wanted to make cakes for them (not to mention they asked me to make them cakes!) The first one was my boyfriend’s cake, one day he just randomly said, “I want a KitKat cake.” I went to Pinterest, found the cake and asked him if this is what he wanted. Of course it was so I started out for this adventure.

The cake was pretty simple to make I was just stressing out because I’m not the best baker in the world and I wanted it to turn out well! The items that I used are:

  • two 8 inch cake pans
  • 1 cake mix box
  • 2 long KitKat packages
  • 1 box of Smarties
  • 1 piece of ribbon

Here’s the link I used to help me make my cake http://www.recipegirl.com/2011/11/02/kit-kat-birthday-cake-and-a-recipe-girl-cookbook-deal/ for the most part I just looked at the pictures and did my own thing at home. That’s how easy this cake was.

Of course I took pictures of my finally product so here it is!

Not too bad eh?

Now for the second cake that one was a little bit harder, my sister wanted to same cake as my boyfriend’s but I told her no. I went to Pinterest again and found another idea. I thought this one was going to be easy and it was until I got to the icing part.

This cake is called a Surprise cake, that’s what I pretty much called it because there’s a surprise in the middle. The things I used in these cake was:

  • two 9 inch cake pans
  • 1 icing spatula
  • 2 boxes of cake mix
  • 2 containers of icing
  • 1 bags of Cadbury mini eggs
  • 2 icing bags
  • food colouring

The baking part of this cake is really easy, you think it would be hard but it wasn’t, even putting the candy on the inside wasn’t hard. Here’s the link that I used for the cake http://thissillygirlslife.com/2014/09/surprise-inside-pinata-cake/

The icing part was a pain in the butt, I don’t know why I didn’t think it was going to be easy, but boy oh boy was I wrong. Here’s the website that I got the idea from http://thecakeblog.com/2013/07/diy-rainbow-petal-cake.html
I wanted more info on how to do these petal cake so I looked at some more and found this YouTube link

I only wanted to do two colours so once again I went to Pinterest and found this

If you click on it it will get bigger, this thing was amazing, the colours matched perfectly!

Here is the finished product for my second cake!

And there you have it! Let me know what you think of the cakes I made. I sure hope I am able to make more to post them for you!

Thanks for reading,

Maeg.
